Went to visit the Istana with T, the new man in town. He conveniently forgot that he invited me for dinner with his family friends. Was quite of annoyed about it but I let it pass cos I was relieved and very happy to skip dinner. Especially when I learned that it was a dinner group of 12.

Instead, I happily arranged to meet A for dinner to feast on local hawker fare while catching up on her hilarious stories from her Europe trip. Brought back funny memories from my trip too. We had fun trading horror stories and poking fun at each other. Oh yes! She brought me this really cool pendant from Venice. So sweet.

Snapshots from the Istana Garden.

It was drizzling the whole morning but the sun was shinning brightly right after lunch. Our conversation was light and easy. However, I cannot help wondering if we can still enjoy each other’s company after the novelty wears off. Beyond the museums going and exploring new aspects of each other’s culture and background differences, do we still have enough common grounds to relate and connect?

We had desserts at this cosy place opposite Istana.

After that I headed out to Borders for a spot of reading. Was distracted by the Taka Sale and popped in for a quick look. I ended up with a new DKNY watch in 20 mins. *Sheepish & guilty look* Treating it as a birthday gift to self. Me and my excuses. Kekeke. Made a quick escape after paying cos the store was jam-packed! It is like free merchandise for grabs! Guess, I am a typical example here. The rest of orchard was equally packed. Abit scary actually.

Did 2 chapters of both “The kite runner” and “The Alchemist” before it was time to head over to meet A. I should be able to finish both books after 2-3 more visits.

Saw this really cool art exhibition on the way to Esplanade to meet A. They are all done by kids. Really cool little artists. The exhibition covers the entire left side of the walkway. Was a delightful sight to behold. Took a few quick snaps as I was late.

My favourite. A sunset scene with little birds in the distance.

Ended my day with “The Pursuit of Happiness” vcd on loan from D. Great movie. Inspiring but does nothing to shake my resolve to get a new job. Which I think is what D was hoping. Sorry, Dude.

In addition to these 3 rejections, I received 3 calls for interivews.

I decline possibility 1 as the opportunity does not align with what I am seeking. In addition, the organisation and its environment is very much similar to my current company.

Went through first round of interview with possibility 2. Am very keen in it as both the opportunity and organisation offers future possibility for further development. It is one of the top tier company in its industry. Main issue the interviewer had with me was “Given your experience, why are you applying for the position of an assistant instead of the main role.”

This is the tricky part since they seem to think of it as taking a step backward. The reason is simple. I am just tired of being in the front end role. But, I still want to be in a role where I can confidently utilise my experiences. I need to find a way to convince them that not wanting to be in a front end role does not signify a lack of self confidence or any possible lack of commitment. It is just the lifestyle I seek. It does not mean that I am going to be irresponsible or do a lousy job. It just means I want to shift my point of focus in work to a different scope. Something for me to chew on. Since that is the main question that all interviewers have to date. I need to work out a few better variations of my reasons for seeking the transition. It is quite of funny to think that I have a higher probability of success if I am applying for the main role instead of the assistant role. Not to mention a higher pay as well. Maybe they are right. I am really weird.

For possibility 3, I am schedule for the second round of assessment next Tuesday. It is a half a day session with the team leader. We are working on a case study together to assess my fit with the role. I am looking forward to it.

Saw L after one of the interview. He was telling me to call him if I am interested in joining his company. S has been telling me the same thing too. Doesn’t anyone get it? I really want a switch from this role. Yes, I know there is a price tag to it. But as I said, I am prepared to adapt and accept the price tag of a pay cut.
